Liverpool are ready to continue their summer spending spree, chief executive Rick Parry has insisted.

The Reds, flush with cash following last season's takeover by Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett, have been one of the close season's big spenders as they seek to end what would be an 18-year run without a league title by the end of next term.

Manager Rafael Benitez is reported to have lavished more than £40million on the likes of Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Ryan Babel and Lucas Leiva to bolster an already impressive squad at his disposal.

But Parry has refused to rule out the possibility of further arrivals at Anfield before the current transfer window closes at the end of August.

"A lot of clubs have spent significant amounts of money this summer, like Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea," he told club website www.liverpoolfc.tv.

"Then there are a number of other clubs who have recently also had new investors, such as Newcastle, and there's still a long way to go before the end of the transfer window.

"If a player becomes available and he's the right player for this club then yes, we will be interested."

Benitez's men will continue preparations for the new Premier League season which kicks off in less than two weeks' time by heading to Holland for the Rotterdam tournament at the weekend, and Parry admits there is an air of excitement around the squad after the flurry of new arrivals.

"There's always a lot expectation but there's definitely a special buzz about the upcoming season," he said.

"We're all excited with the new signings we've made and genuinely happy with what we've done.

"It was important to get them in as early as possible so that Rafa could have more time working with them. Bringing players in on the last day of the transfer window is never ideal.

"It was good for our new players to have been involved in the training camp out in Switzerland and then in Hong Kong."

.... Switzerland, Hong Kong AND Rotterdam.. scratch

Bloody hell, that sounds like a bit too much travelling (don't you just love marketing!), in such a short period of time....

....hope it trips them them up for the start of the season ! !!

Their signings look like experienced and accomplished players, but I wonder how long it will take 3 out of the 4 to settle in the Prem... mind you, with the squad they already have.. they'll have time. The biggest pressure undoutedbly will rest on Torres shoulders .... just hope my gut feeling is right and he will do a Morientes !

Darren Bent Vs Fernando Torres... scratch

.....I know which one I'd rather have ready to go , come 11th August ....and by a country mile ! !!

Bent by a mile. He looks very sharp and has a gift for making space that seems to elude other forwards, not least Jermain Defoe. I'd like to see Liverpool do well this year and overtake Chelsea who have become my personal pet hate after Arsenal, not least because my son supports them.
