| Ramos Axes Kaboul From Spurs Squad Source
Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos has left Younes Kaboul out of the squad to face Anderlecht in the Uefa Cup tonight.
Spurs manager Juande Ramos has removed Younes from the firing line. Kaboul has been a liability for the Lilywhites lately, enduring a nightmare spell at White Hart Lane.
The French defender arrived for a £7.8 million fee from Auxerre during the summer but has been unable to cope with the demands of English football so far.
Ramos has suffered the ignominy of being taken off three times in his last five matches.
He conceded a penalty against Birmingham last Sunday before being replaced by midfielder Tom Huddlestone, and Ramos clearly feels enough is enough for all concerned, especially the player.
He said: "Kaboul has not travelled [to Belgium for the Anderlecht tie].
"You can have 18 people in your squad, so you make your selections on who is the most suitable for each game. We need to win the tie and the thing we need above everything else is strikers.
"I don't think Kaboul is depressed. He is a young lad who is very focused and with lots of desire. I'm convinced he is looking forward to playing again and he has the quality to do so.
"I like attacking football, but it's fundamental they are supported by the defence to get good results. The best form of defence is attack. That's the philosophy we're trying to implement and, hopefully, we'll do it against Anderlecht."
But Ramos made it clear he is not planning to send Kaboul out on loan.
Chimbonxa will move to centre _________________

| I think that was a bad result for us last night. In all likelihood, Getafe will win their last match and therefore we'll finish 2nd in the group, which means we'll be playing a CL drop-out in the next round. Although it will make for an exciting tie, it also means we could go out early on. At least then we can concentrate on our relegation battle I suppose...
UEFA Cup : Group G Table P W D L F A GD PTS 1 Tottenham 4 2 1 1 7 5 2 7 2 Getafe 3 2 0 1 5 4 1 6 3 Anderlecht 3 1 2 0 4 2 2 5 4 Hapoel Tel-Aviv 3 1 0 2 2 5 -3 3 5 Aalborg 3 0 1 2 4 6 -2 1
Remaining fixtures (19 December):
Getafe v Anderlecht Hapoel v Aalborg |

| If you look at the current CL tables (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/europe/champions_league_tables/default.stm), our next opponents in the UEFA Cup will probably be one of this lot:
Marseille Rosenborg Werder Bremen Benfica Lyon Sporting Lisbon PSV Slavia Prague
I suppose that isn't too bad. Slavia Prague please!! |

| i think we're definitely finishing 2nd... Anderlecht will top if they beat Getafe, if it's a draw Getafe will win group on Head to head v Spurs...
there are only 8 CL dropouts, but 16 teams that finish 2nd or 3rd in their UEFA cup group... can't find the detailed seeding process but as far as I remember the top placed team in the group stage avoids other first placed teams and CL dropouts - so as a 2nd place team we must get either a 1st placed group stage team or a CL dropout - with a 50/50 chance of each one (I'm not sure if they still try to keep teams from same coutries apart at this stage). anyone else can confirm this - to make things "easier" they are changing the format again for the season after next! |
