Spurs close on £8m Hutton switch

Hutton has been in superb form for Rangers this season
Rangers and Tottenham are in talks over the transfer of Alan Hutton to the English Premier League club.
BBC Scotland understands that a fee of about £8m could secure the sale of the Scottish international right-back.

Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, who signed a five-year deal in July and has been in superb form this season.

Hutton received praise from Sir Alex Ferguson following his performances in Scotland's Euro 2008 campaign.

Speaking last month, Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist urged Hutton to remain at Ibrox.

"I'd like him to stay here for a long time and win things with Rangers," McCoist said.

"I have no doubt Alan is destined for great things but I believe those great things can be with Rangers."

Could it be Richard Gough all over again?

Apparently not......

Rangers defender Alan Hutton has turned down a potential move to Tottenham.

Spurs were reported to have made a substantial bid for the right-back, who has impressed for Rangers in this season's UEFA Champions League.

Rangers officials and the players agent John Lonergan had declined to comment on claims the two clubs had reached an agreement for the 23-year-old.

However, Hutton - who is also said to have attracted interest from Manchester United - has now said that he is not interested in a move.

Hutton, who has made seven appearances for Scotland, is said to have pulled out of the move because he is happy at Ibrox.

Good. Over rated and over priced. It's center backs, left backs and goalkeepers we need.

Rangers defender Alan Hutton has asked for time to consider a potential move to Tottenham.

Spurs were reported to have made an £8million bid for the right-back, who has impressed for Rangers in this season's UEFA Champions League.

Rangers officials and the player's agent, John Lonergan, had declined to comment on claims the two clubs had reached an agreement for the 23-year-old.

However, it is now understood that Hutton - who is also rumoured to have attracted interest from Manchester United - has asked for two to three days to consider a move to the Premier League with his family.

Hutton, who has earned seven international caps, won especial praise for his outstanding performances in Scotland's 2008 qualifying campaign.

Impressive against Italy and France in Scotland's World Cup qualifying campaigns. Good going forward but I am not sure about $8M for a right back. Do we have the most expensive full backs (Bale and Hutton) in the Premiership?

I agree with Daniel's spoiler, but now it looks like we're still going in for him and Rangers are trying to persuade him to move!

This is a weird one for me. We need centre halves and a left back so why are we splurging 8m on a Jock right back? Apparently he's good going forward but can't defend, shd fit right in with the current lot.

This must mean that they've decided to sell Shimbomba either now or in the summer. I imagine Levy is thinking that Shimbomba is 29 years old, he can get 10m for him now and replace him with a 23 yr old with a 2m profit on top.

Typical bloody Tottenham!

Chimbonda in a recent interview said that we are trying to convert him into a centre half.

And then said that he laughed when he was asked to play centre half. Cheeky bugger.

More reports this morning saying that Hutton is being persuaded by Rangers to move, basically cos they can't believe Spurs want to pay that much money!
