Police impound Robbie Keane's uninsured 4x4

A Premier League footballer's car was seized after police stopped him on suspicion of speeding, sources said.

Officers impounded Tottenham striker Robbie Keane's Range Rover because he did not have a valid driving licence.

The Republic of Ireland star would have to reapply for a full licence and pay at least £105 to get the car back, sources said.

Sources said Mr Keane, who was stopped in Loughton, Essex, yesterday, would be reported for speeding.

They said his licence was invalid because paperwork had not been completed after a previous speeding conviction.

Essex Police said a man from Barnet, north London, had been stopped and had his car seized. A spokesman would not reveal the man's identity.

Meanwhile, Keane has been saying he believes next season is when the work of head coach Juande Ramos will really pay off.

Ramos arrived from Sevilla and made radical changes in an attempt to break Spurs' culture of failure, with new diets for his squad and an emphasis on fitness.

Striker Keane feels February's Carling Cup triumph is just a glimpse of what is to come, warning the Barclays Premier League to expect Tottenham to improve further in Ramos' first full season.

'Next season, you will see the benefits of the manager and everything else,' Keane said. 'This season has been stop-start for everybody because of certain situations.

'You will see the real Tottenham. The way that the manager wants the team to play, that will come next season.'

Spurs have tailed off since winning at Wembley and they look unlikely to finish in the top half of the table.

They can still have a say in the relegation battle as they face Bolton on Saturday followed by Reading the following weekend.

Keane added: 'It has been a strange season. But there was a massive high, saying that.

'If we can continue next season, the fans will take it. Next season, we will see the benefits of the manager and his real team.'

Ramos is expected to bring in his own players in the summer.

The Spaniard has been linked with Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni since the last transfer window but could have competition as Atletico Madrid and Valencia have been reported to have tabled bids.

Paul Robinson has been previously dropped by Ramos this season but could get a chance to impress against Bolton as he is fit again after an ankle injury.
